3. Innovation

SEMATA INDONESIA combines traditional community approaches with modern technologies such as GIS, drones, and data-driven monitoring. Innovation isn't just about tools, but about fresh thinking to address conservation challenges effectively and sustainably.

Work Approach of

SEMATA INDONESIA

Conservation Rooted in Communities, Strengthened by Data, and Driven by Systemic Change

SEMATA INDONESIA was born from a collaboration between youth, researchers, and local residents concerned about the destruction of forests, coastlines, and wildlife habitats in their homeland. From densely forested Tangkahan to the abrasion-threatened coast of Kurandak, we embarked on this journey with one belief: conservation can only succeed if the community takes ownership of it.

Along the way, SEMATA INDONESIA developed three main approaches to create real and sustainable conservation impacts:

1.Community

"We believe that communities are not objects, but the main subjects of conservation."

SEMATA INDONESIA strengthens the capacity, knowledge, and sovereignty of local communities as guardians of their own nature. From forest patrol training and ecotourism management to strengthening conservation village institutions, all are done collaboratively, not for them, but with them.

2.Data

"We put science and technology at the heart of every decision."

SEMATA INDONESIA uses mapping technology (GIS), drones, spatial monitoring, and field research to objectively assess ecological and social conditions. We don't just share this data with the community, empowering them to plan for the future of their region.

3.Policy

"We push for change that goes beyond projects, towards a just system."

Through multi-stakeholder dialogue, academic paper development, and involvement in regional policymaking, SEMATA INDONESIA advocates for inclusive and pro-environment regulations. We work not only in the field but also in decision-making spaces.
